What is the HGUCG research group

The Hellenic Genitourinary Cancer Group (HGUCG) is a Scientific Research Group (legal status: civil non-profit company), which was founded by Urologists and Medical Oncologists with research activity focused on Cancer of the genitourinary system.

Its establishment is the result of the deep conviction of its founding members that cancers of the genitourinary system (as required by the modern principles of treatment of all malignant neoplasms) constitute an ideal model of cooperation of many specialists for the optimal treatment of patients suffering from such neoplasms.

The founding members represent centers in Greece with long-standing cooperation in the treatment and research of uro-genital cancer. This collaboration has been particularly effective with important publications in high impact foreign language journals (J Clin Oncol; Eur Urol;. Ann Oncol; Cancer; Pharmacogenomics; J Urol; Urology etc).

The aim of the HGUCG is to help strengthen cooperation with any center interested in promoting the treatment and research of Uro-Genital Cancer. The Group may consist of scientists from any clinical and research field who are dedicated to the treatment and research of uro-genital cancer. We are of the opinion that this approach will enable us to make a meaningful contribution to the optimal treatment of patients with genitourinary system neoplasms and to the continued advancement of the Greek research potential, which is already prominent on a global scale.

It is crucial to underscore that the HGUCG is not a scientific society or association in the sense of representing subjects or specialities. In contrast, we have mobilised all of our resources to support the objectives of each such institutional entity, as we are of the opinion that the most effective treatment for cancer patients can only be achieved through the close collaboration of all those who are committed to providing the best possible care during these challenging times for our nation.
